This is a full-time, responsible position with the International Sonoran Desert Alliance involving all of the organization’s accounting and bookkeeping functions.
At the International Sonoran Desert Alliance (ISDA) we design and implement environmental cultural, real estate and business development projects intended to preserve and enrich the environment, culture and economy of the Sonoran Desert. ISDA is a tri-national and tri-cultural organization. This position requires the ability to work with people from various cultural backgrounds and affiliations, including residents of the Tohono O'odham Nation and Sonora, Mexico, among others. Specific accounting/bookkeeping responsibilities:
Process and pay all invoices in a timely manner.
Receive and deposit all organizational revenue.
Execute bi-weekly payroll activities and payroll taxes.
Handle all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to: A/P, A/R, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliation in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare Journal Entries for prepaid expense, deferred revenue and payroll cash accounts.
Execute month-end closing procedures and postings.
Produce annual 1099 forms for vendors and W-2s for employees.
Coordinate with outside CPA and auditors in preparation of year-end audit and IRS 990 filings.
Be key interface with banks and be responsible for cash management (e.g. anticipating cash needs and transferring funds to ensure sufficient cash available at all times).
Maintain accounting procedures and policies and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems.
Support Executive Director in development and analysis of annual organizational budget.
Support Executive Director and Program Directors in developing grant proposal budgets.
Perform non-routine tasks requiring strong judgement and initiative.

Accounting degree or equivalent work experience.
3-5 years work experience in a bookkeeping/accounting function.
Experience working in non-profit multi-fund accounting, including experience tracking and reporting financial data for multiple grant funders.
Strong Quickbooks skills, including all normal accounting transactions, GL management, budgeting and reporting.
Strong Excel skills.
Experience going through a financial audit.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Attention to detail, strong communication and problem solving are all critical skills for success in this role.

As a small, but incredibly comprehensive community development organization working in a geographically isolated location, all of our team members must be able to work in a flexible and collaborative environment. This position reports directly to the executive director and has direct oversight for a part-time bookkeeping assistant.
