This exempt management position plans, organizes and directs the emergency service operations of a
full service fire/EMS/rescue emergency response agency. May serve as the Fire Chief in his/her absence and represents the department in emergency service matters at the regional and state levels.
Essential Functions
Operational Objectives
: Be directly responsible to the Fire Chief
: Provide direct oversight of all Fire Operations and Fire/EMS Operations
: Supervise Battalion Chiefs
: Develop and maintain a thorough and current knowledge of department administrative policies and procedures, Standard Operating Guidelines, Labor Agreements, minimum Company Standards, fire ground tactics and techniques, and training
: Assist with planning and implementation of departmental short and long:range goals
: Develop recommendations for the protection of life and property
:Manage business effectively with positive market feedback
:Coach and develop team to achieve individual and operational goals
:Maintain relationships with local agencies
:Monitor and manage key performance indicators and operational performance data
Profit and Loss Objectives
:Operate to meet or exceed operating profit objectives
:Manage local relationships to optimize profitability
:Manage assets within the areas assigned to control expenses
Human Resource Management
:Work with the Human Resource Manager to identify training locations, interview candidates, and train new employees
:Provide direction to subordinates to initiate appropriate levels of training
:Overall accountability for Collective Bargaining Activities and issues within areas assigned
:Conduct timely and informative meetings with staff. Disseminate information in a timely fashion
:Overall accountability for compliance with Company policies and procedures as well as compliance in assigned areas
:Support corporate initiatives
Additional Duties
Systems Skills: A working knowledge of MS Office; Use data from different sources to identify issues and quickly identify the central or underlying issues in a complex situation.
Other requirements: Travel occasionally throughout the region; Must have a valid driver's license
:Reviews paperwork for accuracy and correct process
:Implements corrective/preventive measures as determined by the Corporate Compliance/Audit Committee
:Cooperates with Internal Audit, Compliance and HR on any recommendations and changes to compliance and legal workflow issues
:Complies and enforces all policies and procedures
:Successfully complete all required Compliance Training within the required period
:Must participate in scheduled and unscheduled onsite compliance audits
:High energy level and high degree of self:motivation
:Ability to maintain a stable disposition despite external pressure and opposition
: Experience with managing complex emergency scenes
: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
:Proven ability to develop annual operating plans with clearly defined objectives and target markets
:Proven knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations as applied to the fire service and ambulance industry
:Proven knowledge of "best practices" information sources and organizations available to fire service managers
Minimum Educational Requirements
:Bachelor degree from a four:year, accredited college or university
:Minimum 10 years' experience in the Fire Service with at least three being at the Battalion Chief level or above
