Job Description: RF & Navigation Subsystems Target Detection Devices (TDD) Section Head The Electrical Subsystems Directorate (ESD) RF & Navigation (RFN) Subsystems Department is currently searching for a Section Head to lead the Target Detection Devices (TDD) section. The Section Head is responsible for first line management of a group of 7-9 electrical engineers who have varying levels of experience and diverse domain expertise. The TDD section provides senior engineering design, development and production expertise to programs requiring proximity sensor solutions. The specific job responsibilities and duties include: Plan and track staff s task assignments Execution and leadership relative to program execution Support staff with career development planning Assist with strengthening core engineering skills and discipline, and developing domain knowledge and expertise across the RFN department Prepare staff performance evaluations Assist in planning for and addressing staffing needs Assist and support recruiting and interviewing activities and Assist with ensuring staff s compliance with company policies/procedures. The successful candidate will manage engineers who are involved with development of deliverable products over the entire engineering development lifecycle. Although the section staff will typically work on independent projects, the Section Head will foster collaboration and cross-fertilization of ideas and new technologies within the group. They will also contribute directly to engineering development and other technical efforts as a task lead, technical lead, and/or individual contributor. The Section Head s duties will occupy an average of ~10% time. The other ~ 90% time will be spent on a combination of contractual, IR&D, marketing, and business development activities typical for a senior technical staff member. Note: This position can be Salary Grade G10 (Principal Electrical Engineer) or Salary Grade G11 (Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer) based upon the applicant s qualifications as they relate to the technical skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position. Required Experience and Skills U.S. Citizenship Required Experience with RF Subsystems that may include Proximity Sensors, Radar requirements definition and architecture, as well as the design, integration, verification and/or validation of such subsystems. A minimum of 8 years relevant experience Ideal candidates will have familiarity with missile hardware and software to fill the role as Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) for missile TDDs. Understanding of Radar Signal Processing is an advantage for this position. Familiarity with System Thinking in Radar Basic Concepts, RF Signal Processing, Digital Signal processing, HW/SW Integration & Test Process and Procedures. Knowledgeable of RF/Radar analysis methods in the entire lifecycle of subsystems development from proposal & requirements through production support. Execution of assigned program related tasks, including leading gate reviews, design reviews and sustaining maintenance and support Continuation & enhancement of the design and maintenance process across all related programs including Technical Data Package updates Make critical engineering judgments with minimal review by supervisor and/or an outside subject matter expert with regard to failures, new designs, and/or integration/verification decisions specific to the TDD itself Lead a technical team in the effective and efficient execution of program tasks, collaborating well with other engineering disciplines and factory personnel to accomplish work as thoroughly yet efficiently as possible Strong engineering development discipline and process advocacy Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills Working knowledge with MS Project, PowerPoint, Word and Excel Required Education Bachelor of Science (BS) in math, engineering, science or related technical field. Desired Experience and Skills Masters of Science (MS) or PhD in electrical engineering 10+ years professional experience with national recognition in industry Experience in creation and/or improvement of engineering development processes Excellent track record for working effectively and collaboratively in a diverse team environment Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities from multiple sources Coaching, teaching and / or mentoring skills Strong emotional intelligence skills (i.e., self-awareness, self-management empathy, social awareness and relationship management) Demonstrated ability to put forth and drive technical execution plans Knowledgeable of management processes, such as IPDS, EVMS, etc. Familiarity with all stages of the missile product lifecycle, including early concept/trade studies, performance simulations, qualification testing, and transition to production Familiarity with assessing program level risks to performance objectives and communicating status to business leadership and customer community This position requires the ability to obtain and hold a DoD secret security clearance. This position requires the successful issuance, transfer or maintenance of any clearances and/or accesses necessary for the position. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
