Title: Laborer / Flagger Job Site: Tucson, AZ Salary Type: Hourly Desired Years Experience: 1-2 Position Summary: This individual will perform clean-up tasks and other functions necessary to assist carpenters in their work, but the main responsibility of this individual is to maintain a clean jobsite. May build rough wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, and other rough carpentry items according to oral instructions. Could also be involved with installation of protection (floors, walls, casework, etc.), installation of division 10 specialties, completion of minor punch list items and minor touch-up, demolition, clean up, and other daily items that might arise due to project conditions, schedule, and needs from project management. Performs traffic control tasks related to construction activities. May operate hand-held traffic control devices, radios, or use other methods of communication. Responsible for the safety of construction workers, pedestrians, vehicular traffic and the general public through, near or around construction sites. Required Tasks: Performs clean up operations as deemed necessary by supervisor. Digs holes or trenches for foundations, posts, poles, or related items. Moves and lifts heavy objects. Climbs ladders, concrete formwork, or other structures necessary to assist in erecting formwork and to access elevated areas. Discusses traffic routing plans and type and location of control points with supervisor Distributes traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern. Directs movement of traffic through site using sign, hand, and/or flag signals. Warns construction workers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers. Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites. Controls traffic passing near, in, and around work zones Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials. Adheres to and performs functions according to company and OSHA safety guidelines. Updates and uses relevant knowledge to complete own work. Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position. Performs other duties as determined and required by project need. Additional Tasks: Applies adhesives, caulking, sealants, or coatings. Bores holes in timber, masonry or concrete walls, using power drill. Dissembles parts by hand or by woodworking and metalworking machines. Uses basic carpentry and concrete fabrication techniques as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: Limited knowledge of concrete and carpentry. General understanding of safety requirements necessary to completing the position functions and activities is necessary. Basic understanding of hand tools is recommended. Required to be exact or highly accurate and meet strict deadlines. Ability to remain alert and attentive at all times. Ability to follow directions. Ability to perform functions following safety requirements and site conditions is necessary. Ability to identify proper tools for specific functions. Ability to listen and follow directions. Ability to be responsible for the health and safety of others by working safely. Ability to adhere to strict quality control measures. Ability to read and understand a tape measure. The employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of motion. Specific vision abilities include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, wind, and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces. Requires repetitive movement and use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, and controls. Hazards: May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold as well as certain unsafe environments; occasionally works near moving equipment and mechanical parts and electrical equipment; possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles; possible exposure to internal liquids. This is a safety sensitive position where a momentary lapse of attention can result in serious injury or death. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally very loud. Must follow all safety requirements carefully.
